Jakob Paul Gundling wird 1673 geboren. Nachdem er als Professor brotlos wird, nimmt er eine Stelle als Vorleser von König Friedrich Wilhelm I. an. Mit Gewalt wird er zum Hofnarr erniedrigt und verfällt dem Alkohol. Er stirbt 1731.
